Tailor-make your Zambia holiday to see the bat migration

Every year from October until December, eight million straw-coloured fruit bats arrive from the Congo to feed on the wild Masuku fruits in Zambia's Kasanka National Park. It's the world's largest mammal migration.

We work closely with Robin Pope Safaris, and we can arrange guided trips into the park for you to witness this fascinating spectacle close-up. You can combine watching this unforgettable sight with other highlights of Zambia, such as visiting the nearby Bangweulu Wetlands.

Wildlife in the Bangweulu Wetlands

This is one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife secrets, with the shoebill stork a particular draw. There are also wattled crane, sacred ibis, spur-winged goose, and swamp flycatcher, as well as plentiful elephant, buffalo, reedbuck, and massive herds of black lechwe.

Fitting the bat migration into a bigger safari holiday

North Luangwa National Park and South Luangwa National Park are two of the leading safari destinations in Africa. As they're close to Kasanka National Park, you can easily combine a safari there with a trip to see the bat migration.
