Rice farming in Hoi An

Hands-on Rice Growing Tour

Rice farming in Hoi An

You will be met at your hotel and transferred to the farm. On arrival you will meet the farmers and enjoy tea before donning traditional Vietnamese clothing (a conical hat and overalls) to prepare for getting into the paddy field. Your guide will explain the details of wet rice cultivation and answer any questions that you might have. You will then watch as the farmer demonstrates ploughing the field in the traditional way with a water buffalo, before you are guided on how to transplant rice seedlings which will eventually mature and be harvested.

You will also have a chance to rake the field, harvest the rice by hand with a sickle, as well as sorting and grinding the rice to make rice milk. Rice milk is the key ingredient in rice pancakes and it is these that you will make in the farmer's house to finish off a hugely enjoyable half day. If you wish, enjoy a short ride on a water buffalo and experience these gentle animals up close before enjoying your lunch with the farmer's family and returning to your hotel.
