InterContinental Resort and Thalasso Spa, Bora Bora

InterContinental Resort and Thalasso Spa

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

The InterContinental Resort and Thalasso Spa offers the ultimate in Polynesian luxury in contemporary style. It is the first hotel on Bora Bora to have only overwater villas, each with stunning views of the beach, the mountains or the lagoon.

The villas are well appointed and very spacious, with separate living room, bedroom, bathroom, dressing room, shaded terrace and bathing deck. The resort itself is home to the Thalasso Spa Bora Bora, offering treatments using the extraordinarily pure deep-sea water to replenish the body's minerals and to restore equilibrium. Other facilities include an infinity pool, tennis court, dive centre and several bars and restaurants.

Located on Motu Piti Aau, and looking back over the dramatic peaks of Mount Otemanu, the InterContinental Resort is a beautiful and ultimately relaxing destination.

OUR OPINION:

With a state-of-the-art spa and large modern overwater bungalows, the InterContinental Resort and Thalasso Spa is one of the best resorts on Bora Bora.

Rooms

The spacious villas are all designed the same and set over the water with a sleek, contemporary design but differ by their views. The large picture windows offer views over the lagoon from your bed and each villa has a separate bedroom with glass coffee table looking down into the water. There is an outdoor terrace with shaded area, sundeck and lagoon access.

Location

Set on the small islet of Motu Piti Aau, the hotel has incredible views across the lagoon of Mount Otemanu rising majestically from the main island of Bora Bora. For those that wish to explore, a complimentary boat shuttle runs to Bora Bora several times a day.

Food and drink

Here you have an impressive choice of three restaurants at the hotel. The Reef Bar and Restaurant is impressively decorated with unique sculptures and works of art and is open for breakfast and dinner. The patio opens out to the impressive view of the blue lagoon and you can enjoy a gourmet fine dining experience with a wonderful mix of international and Polynesian cuisines. The Sand Bar is situated on the resort’s white sand beach and is the ideal place to pick up a light meal or snack as well as offering an impressive range of exotic cocktails. For a fine dining option, try Le Corail Restaurant, which is open for dinner only, and has the largest wine cellar in French Polynesia and overlooks the inside of the lagoon in an intimate and memorable dining setting. For happy hour, stop by the Bubble Bar, which has an impressive selection of over different 90 martinis on the menu.

Families

The hotel is not specifically aimed at families and there is no kids’ club.

Facilities and activities

As well as the pool and great snorkelling in the lagoon, guests can enjoy a wide range of water sports including kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and windsurfing. On land, there’s a tennis court, gym, volleyball and a variety of cultural demonstrations throughout the week.

Diving

Diving in French Polynesia is excellent with an abundance of marine life and coral as well as incredibly clear waters. The resort has its own PADI dive centre.

Spa Facilities

This hotel is renowned for its spa facilities and many guests and visitors to Bora Bora will book a spa session at the Deep Ocean Spa. Its unique concept involves using mineral rich seawater drawn from the Pacific Ocean at depths of over 900 m. Deep Ocean Spa proposes spaces of hydrotherapy, aesthetics and soft energy. Located on stilt bungalows, some treatment rooms are overwater with bottom glass panels, so you can view the marine life and flora during your care.
