Jungle Lodge

Jungle Lodge

Indonesia

Situated inside the Gunung Leuser National Park, Jungle Lodge has an enviable location perched above the crystal clear Bamboo River. The rooms all have large wooden balconies with river views where you can sip a beer in your hammock and listen to the sounds of the jungle as the sun sets around you.

Inside, the rooms are simply furnished with a double bed and mosquito net. The bathrooms have Western toilets, although still require flushing yourself with pails of water. The lodge runs on a generator which operates from about 6pm until midnight. There is no hot water available but a natural hot spring on the opposite bank of the river gurgles into a rock pool and feels like a bath! A nearby waterfall also gives you the option of a 'jungle shower'!

Three excellent home cooked meals are provided every day by the friendly hosts, a German and Indonesian couple who have retreated to this jungle haven. The restaurant/bar has been built into the jungle foliage and rests above the river. Macaque and monkey are regular visitors to the lodge and if you are very lucky orangutan can sometimes be heard swinging through the forest.
