Pacific Resort Aitutaki

Aitutaki, The Cook Islands

Cast away your watch and simply sit back and relax at this serene, beachfront hotel. The Pacific Resort Aitutaki is one of the finest accommodation options on the island, and its Polynesian architecture, colonial furnishings, and fine food and wine create a relaxed but indulgent atmosphere.

With individual bungalows and villas set in lush, tropical forest, you’ll get plenty of peace and privacy, while the local staff and tranquil atmosphere ensure a gentle pace to life.

The 29 bungalows, suites and villas overlook the white sand beach and the clear waters of the sheltered lagoon with the Pacific Ocean beyond. All rooms have a private veranda, air conditioning, and indoor and outdoor showers, and the floor-to-ceiling windows offer direct views of the sea.

The hotel has two restaurants: poolside Black Rock which serves casual meals and cocktails, and fine-dining Rapae Bay which opens in the evenings only. Guests can also opt for private dining, or if you’re staying on a Wednesday night, attend the Polynesian buffet with live entertainment.

Complimentary kayaks, paddleboards and snorkel gear are all available, as is a full spa offering massages and treatments.

OUR OPINION:

Rooms

All the spacious bungalows and villas at the resort sit on the beachfront and offer sweeping views of the lagoon. The decor is colonial in style with hand-carved furniture, large trunks, feature lamps and Polynesian crafts. Each bungalow or villa has a private sun deck, and the bathrooms include beach showers. All rooms feature air conditioning, USB charging points, an entertainment system, and Wi-Fi, though the internet connection comes at an additional charge.

Location

The hotel sits on the west coast of Aitutaki, right on the beach and overlooking the lagoon. Aitutaki has a slower pace of life than Rarotonga and although the west coast is home to most of the island’s hotels, the location is extremely tranquil. There are some small shops and restaurants within easy walking distance and Arutanga, the island’s main town, is a five-minute drive away, as is the airport in the opposite direction.

Food and drink

A full à la carte breakfast is served each morning, and light, casual meals, cocktails and panoramic views are on offer at the poolside Black Rock bar throughout the day and evening. More formal, fine dining is available in the evenings at the Rapae Bay Restaurant which serves a menu that fuses traditional Polynesian ingredients with modern European dishes. Guests can also opt to eat privately on the beach in a Bedouin-style tent. On Wednesday nights, the hotel puts on a Polynesian-themed buffet evening with live entertainment.

Families

Only children over 12 are accepted at the resort.

Facilities and activities

Along with the freshwater infinity pool and a small gym, the hotel provides complimentary kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and snorkels. The Tiare Spa offers a full range of beauty treatments and massages, and every Wednesday night, live performances by island drummers, guitarists and ukulele players give an insight into Cook Island culture.
