Peljesac wineries and Ston oyster tasting

Indulge in the gastronomy of the Dalmatian Coast on this private, full-day tour that incorporates visits to two very different wineries and an oyster farm. Along with meeting the producers, learning about their work and hearing their stories, you’ll get to sample some of the best Croatian reds and some of the finest seafood in the world.

With the help of your guide and the owners themselves, you’ll learn about the effects of the geology and climate, the influence of local traditions and modern processes, and the reasons why these local products are so highly acclaimed.

You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Dubrovnik or Korčula on the morning of your tour and make your way to the Peljesac Peninsula. The sunshine, hills and terroir provide ideal growing conditions for the plavac mali grape which flourishes in this region.

The peninsula is known for some of the highest-rated red wines in Croatia, due in large part to the abundant sunshine, 45-degree hillside slopes and high mineral content in the rock beds.

Your first stop will be the waterfront Korta Katarina Winery where you’ll have a tour of the winery to hear about its history and production processes. This is followed by a formal tasting session of three of their varietals, paired with a small food platter.

From here, you’ll continue to the village of Ponikve to visit Miloš. This family-run winery highlights their passion for the terrain and products they create with a personal tour of the vineyards, explaining the care and effort that goes into each year's harvest. You’ll likely meet the owner Frano or his sons Josip and Ivan, who offer the tours and tastings of their award-winning wines.

After your tour, you'll go to meet local oyster farmer, Denis Dražeta, in Mali Ston. The oysters of Mali Ston Bay are reputed to be some of the best in the world thanks to the distinctive blend of nutrients in the waters here.

Denis will take you to his private farm and explain the painstaking process involved in growing these oysters. Each step is done by hand and each oyster is carefully attended to throughout its growth, from netting to shucking.

After learning about the process, you’ll have a chance to indulge in these oysters as well as some local mussels, Croatian wine and homemade rakija (a traditional fruit brandy) in a peaceful garden overlooking the sea. At the end of the visit, your driver will take you back to your hotel.
