Constance Le Prince Maurice

Constance Prince Maurice

Mauritius

With a beautiful, secluded location and a sheltered sweep of white sand beach, Constance Prince Maurice is a great choice for a relaxing beach stay.

Rustic, thatched roofs cover public spaces that are filled with marble floors and sculptural works. The effect is one of laid-back luxury and understated sophistication, and with only 89 suites and villas, the Prince Maurice is a relatively small property compared to most Mauritius resorts, retaining a relatively intimate feel.

The hotel is part of the Constance Hotels and Resorts group, who also operate excellent resorts in the Seychelles and Maldives and as you would expect from the group, service at the hotel is to a high standard with staff keen that you love your time there.

OUR OPINION:

The Constance Prince Maurice is a great luxury property with a wealth of facilities ensuring that you have plenty to keep you occupied whilst enjoying time by the beach. It is elegant and understated, private but welcoming. Despite the size the hotel still retains an intimate feel.

Rooms

The 89 elegant villas and suites offer understated sophistication with hardwood floors, marble bathrooms, contemporary furnishings and large windows. All offer a balcony or terrace and have air conditioning, Apple Mac Mini, television and CD/DVD. The en suite bathrooms have both a bathtub and shower.

Location

Sitting on a private peninsula on the east coast of Mauritius, the Prince Maurice offers a feeling of seclusion. Although there are no private beaches in Mauritius, the hotel's location means that its long sweep of white sand beach is effectively private. The beach cove is north facing and sheltered from the prevailing winds and has a shallow gradient. Lush tropical gardens cover the grounds and a natural fish reserve on the western side of the property adds to the beauty. The hotel is a taxi ride from the village of Central Flacq where you will find shopping and restaurants.

Food and drink

There are three restaurants and three bars at Prince Maurice.

The main restaurant, Archipel overlooks the swimming pool and the beach offering elegant à la carte dining with Mauritian influences or more casual dining in the Beach Deck area.

Le Barachois, open for dinner, has a spectacular setting and entrance which is navigated via a lantern-lit wooden walkway through the mangrove trees. Five floating decks sit over the waters of the lagoon and diners enjoy candlelit dinners of fresh seafood as well as tasty grills and Mauritian dishes.

The Asian Restaurant, in the Laguna Bar area, is open for lunch and dinner with a selection of sushi, sashimi and other Japanese dishes.

Prince Maurice guests can also dine at Constance Belle Mare Plage Hotel, a sister property only 10 minutes' drive away on a free shuttle.

Evenings are low key but sophisticated and the three bars all have different characters. The Lounge Bar is ideal for an apéritif before dinner while the Laguna Bar offers a livelier, yet still laidback atmosphere. Set by the pool side it offers smoothies, drinks and light snacks during the day as well as live jazz in the evenings. The Barachois bar shares the same stunning setting as the Barachois restaurant with ocean views and a beautiful mountain backdrop. This floating bar is a great spot for sunset.

Families

The complimentary children's club welcomes children of 4-11 years and offers a pool, open play areas, computer stations and arts and crafts activities as well as theme days. Indoor and outdoor activities are offered daily under supervision, and children's menus are also available on request, as well as babysitting facilities (at an additional cost).

Facilities and activities

As you would expect from a five-star resort, the facilities at Constance Prince Maurice are extensive.

There are plenty of water sports to enjoy and a great number are complimentary, including sailing boats, kayaks, snorkelling, pedalos, waterskiing and wakeboarding. Kitesurfing is also available for a charge.

On land there is a gym, sauna, two floodlit tennis courts, two swimming pools and bicycles can be arranged.

Finally, golfers can play free of charge at the nearby Belle Mare Plage Legend and Links courses, both PGA, and there is a free shuttle available every half an hour between 7am and 7pm for the five-minute transfer.

Set in a quiet corner of the hotel's gardens the luxurious spa is a great place to relax. It uses Sisley products and features such treatments as the Ultimate Moments package, which has a choice of phyto-aromatic facials, or the Gentlemen's Escape, which includes foot reflexology and a Sisley facial.

There is no dive facility on site, however, guests at the Prince Maurice can use the Blues Diving Centre located at the sister hotel, the Constance Belle Mare Plage, just ten minutes away by free shuttle bus.

There are over 20 dive sites that can be explored, ranging from sites for the novice to the experienced diver and the dive centre can also arrange night dives, introduction to scuba and refresher lessons.

Local excursions

If you would like to explore further afield the hotel can arrange all manner of activities such as fly-fishing, deep sea fishing and trips around the island.
