Aside from scouring the local markets, there isn’t a great deal of things to do in Vietnam’s quiet coastal city of Quy Nhon except for relax. But that’s the very reason to go. Here, along the country’s lesser-visited coastline, you can sprawl out on spotless white-sand beaches, snorkel in clear, coral-dotted waters, and sink into a therapeutic massage at your hotel’s spa.

The glittering South China Sea takes the spotlight during a stay in Quy Nhon, but if you do feel a little antsy, you can visit the nearby ruins of the ancient kingdom of Champa. This historical site cradles ornate towers, temples, and shrines from the 11th century, juxtaposing against the city’s luxury seaside resorts.

An exclusive train ride from Da Nang to Quy Nhon

There’s no better way to relax into your Quy Nhon beach stay than by arriving on Vietnam’s most opulent train carriage, The Vietage. Starting at Da Nang, a bustling city around three hours from Hue and an hour from Hoi An, you’ll embark on a six-hour journey through central Vietnam’s forested countryside and carved shorelines aboard an intimate 12-guest carriage.

The windows of The Vietage host your own private screening to the route’s most cinematic scenes: water buffalos resting in grassy fields, lush green rice paddies brimming with water, and clusters of villages nestled among the palm trees.

After enjoying a gourmet three-course meal, mixologist-prepared cocktails, and a soothing massage during your journey, you’ll step out into Quy Nhon refreshed and ready to unwind on its pristine shores.

The white-sand beaches of Quy Nhon

Quy Nhon boasts plenty of beach spots lying at the foot of rocky cliffs. However, some of the more popular beaches like Ky Co and Eo Gio can get quite crowded and, as a result, discarded litter can sometimes spoil the view. Instead, we recommend sticking to the secluded beaches accessed by Quy Nhon’s more tranquil resorts, such as Bai San Ho on the outskirts of the city.

Set within expansive nature-preserved grounds, Bai San Ho faces out onto a long stretch of immaculate powder-sand beach to one side — with private direct access from some of the hotel’s villas — and tangled emerald vegetation to the other. It’s situated about 45 minutes from the city, giving you further peace as you gaze out onto the quiet coral bay.

Best time to visit Quy Nhon

The best time to visit Quy Nhon is from February to April, when it tends to be driest. Temperatures climb from around 28°C (82°F) in February to around 31°C (88°F) in April. September and October are also quieter months, if you’re willing to risk a few rain showers during your stay.
