Kenya Specialist

I first went to Africa in 2007 and volunteered in an orphanage in a rural area in western Kenya. I immediately fell in love with this fascinating country and wanted to learn all about it, so I decided to study African studies and cultural anthropology in Vienna, my home town.

I have been to Kenya every year since then, exploring the entire country and establishing my own little charity, which supports orphans. Being able to communicate in Swahili has helped me to experience Kenya in an unfiltered and authentic way, and I built some wonderful relationships with local people over the past years.

After my graduation I set off on a big trip, visiting 11 countries in nine months, before moving to London and beginning my career in the travel industry. I am now happy to be sharing my passion for Africa as a Kenya specialist at Audley.

In our loud and busy world, it is so important to find some calm and space to relax and rejuvenate. To me, the Laikipia Plateau in Kenya is a great place to reconnect with myself and nature. I explored the area on foot with Maasai guides who were able to explain the natural surroundings to me in a profound and interesting way. I learned so much about their rich culture and about the animals that crossed our path that I felt a deep connection with nature, all of it undisturbed by any other vehicles or people along on the way.

After the excitement and activity of time on safari, it is a joy to reach the tropical coast and have some time to simply relax. The Sands at Nomad, a boutique hotel on Diani Beach, Kenya, is a great place to unwind, try out the water sports and enjoy some cocktails. As soon as you arrive, the pool beckons, while behind it lie palm-fringed white sands and the Indian Ocean. Every time I get to this hotel I immediately feel happy and well taken care of: a little indulgence at the end of a few days in the bush.

I'll never forget when…

On my first game drive in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya my driver-guide was told that a pride of lion was seen not far away from us. We quickly made our way to find them and were absolutely stunned when we discovered 16 lion relaxing together after a big meal. As the sun set, my guide prepared an ice-cold gin and tonic for me as we watched the lion slowly wake up and start to jump around and play quite undisturbed by our presence. What a magical experience.
